I have been through many types of baby wipes since becoming a parent. While many wipes will do the job, I've wondered about the chemicals or harmful ingredients they may contain. When I got the chance to try WaterWipes I jumped on it since they are known as a chemical free and natural wipe option.
WaterWipes contain only two ingredients; 99.9% purified water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. I had heard of the European brand awhile ago but wasn't sure where to find them. I recently came across them at Target which is perfect since I go there all the time anyway. If you would like to find them try this store locator which will help.
Once I had my WaterWipes in hand I spent a few weeks testing them out. Knowing I was using a safer and all natural product made me feel good, but would I like them as much as other wipes I have used?
The answer is yes! These are as durable and worked as well on the big diaper changes as any other wipes I have tried. And, there are several things about them I like better.
For one, the lack of chemicals meant that they did not sting my hands. Yes, that's right I said sting. I suffer from eczema and get cracks and cuts on my hands occasionally, especially once it gets colder. Regular wipes sting my hands and burn. That of course made me wonder what I was rubbing all over my baby.
My almost two year old son has also had bouts of eczema since birth, so I am happy to know I am using a product that will not aggravate it further. He has also suffered from diaper rashes more than average and these wipes are great for diaper rashes since they do not irritate at all. This alone is a reason to make these my favorite wipes going forward.
Other features I like about these wipes include the scent, or lack of... they smell fresh but there is nothing else there to irritate sensitive noses. I feel confidant using these on my son's face to clean him up as well.
The packaging makes them easy to transport or throw in a diaper bag. I recently took them on our Thanksgiving road trip and they stayed fresh and wet in the package despite plenty of use. There is a resealable opening which keeps them fresh. WaterWipes are not folded and it is not recommended to move them to a separate container for this reason. Keeping them in the same package allows them to remain sterile as well.
Since these wipes do not contain preservatives they should be used within a month once opened. An unopened package will last about 15 months.
Oh, and if you are like me and every other mom I know, you may use your baby wipes to clean your house ha. I do the occasional dresser or counter wipe down when my baby wipes are the only cleaning tool handy. Knowing these don't contain any chemicals means they are safe this for this use as well.
So there you have it, my thoughts on WaterWipes. I am loving this chemical free option that is also safe for eczema issues. It's great to know there is a better option out there for those of us with sensitive skin, or any parent trying to avoid chemicals. I personally would recommend these to any mom I know. Please let me know if you have any questions about WaterWipes at all!
