When Preparing To Breastfeed While Pregnant, A Good Sleep Nursing Bra is a Must!

I have written a few articles about preparing to breastfeed while pregnant. I think there are many things you can do ahead of time, while still pregnant, which will make breastfeeding easier.

One of those is buying yourself a great nursing sleep bra. I remember when I was pregnant with my first baby wondering why I needed to buy new bras. I asked my mom group at the time, do I really need to invest in new bras? Why can't I just wear my normal bras to breastfeed?

Well, they quickly let me know a myriad of reasons why you are going to want not only nursing bras, but also nursing sleep bras:

1. Your breasts change a lot while pregnant and nursing. While pregnant your breasts may be sore or enlarged, and that little bit of support while sleeping can really help with comfort.
2. When breastfeeding you do not want to have to pull your regular bra down or to the side. This will stretch your bras out and ruin them with time.
3. Underwire, which I always wore before breastfeeding, can cause clogged ducts and discomfort when nursing.
4. Having a sleep bra is great for keeping nursing pads in place, and offering gentle support in those early days of breastfeeding. I leaked a lot at night so that was crucial for me.

Still, despite this information I did not buy any bras specifically for breastfeeding. I think I was overwhelmed with the choices and didn't know what to do.
