It's World Breastfeeding Week 2016! World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from August 1-7 each year. It is a celebration and promotion of breastfeeding. This year's theme is Breastfeeding: A key to Sustainable Development.
Some further information about this theme from the World Breastfeeding Week website:
World Breastfeeding Week 2016 focuses on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a global agenda to transform our world over the next 15 years by 2030.
These 17 goals were created by world leaders and are aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity.
The World Breastfeeding Week 2016 theme is about how breastfeeding is a key element in getting us to think about how to value our wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world we share.
I love this year's theme. Sustainability is living in a way that does not harm future generations. World Breastfeeding Week 2016 shows how breastfeeding is a key to sustainable development. The image below list the 17 sustainable development goals and how breastfeeding relates to each one. It's amazing as you look through each sustainable development goal and the comparable benefits of breastfeeding to see the global benefits of breastfeeding. Take the time to look through each goal and the way breastfeeding relates to that goal. You can see the larger version and explore each goal at the World Breastfeeding Week website:
I will be posting and participating more World Breastfeeding Week activities as the week goes on!
