It’s World Breastfeeding Week 2019World Breastfeeding Week 2019 and the theme this year is empower parents, enable breastfeeding.

I love the theme this year. WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action)WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) comes up with a great theme each year but this may be my favorite.

Becoming an empowered breastfeeding parent was a journey for me and took many years until I felt completely comfortable breastfeeding, and empowered.

A lot has changed even since I had my first child seven years ago and became a breastfeeding parent for the first time. I was not feeling empowered when she was born. I struggled, she was in the NICU, and I was pretty sure breastfeeding was not for me in those early days.

But with a lot of help from lactation consultants and other resources I went on to successfully breastfeed for many years and three children total.

I now realize how important empowering parents really is when it comes to enabling breastfeeding.
