I recently was given the opportunity to review the Knot Genie detangling brush through my Creative Blogger’s Network group. I was pretty excited to check this out since attempting to brush my 3 year old’s hair is always a challenging endeavor. To say she doesn’t like having her hair brushed is an understatement. Not only does she not enjoy it, but her hair easily becomes a tangled mess if I don’t stay on top of it daily. She has long curly hair and I admit I have never given her a haircut. I am not sure how long I will be able to withhold her first haircut, but finding products to keep the tangles down is a must.

According to Knot Genie their brushes were created specifically for dealing with the brushing battles many parents have with their kids. The Knot Genie glides through hair gently and painlessly to detangle and remove knots. The secret to the Knot Genie is the bristles and the unique shape. The bristles are different lengths to detangle and they bend slightly to prevent pain. The brush does not have a handle so it fits in your hand easily. An added bonus of the shape for me? My daughter didn’t see the typical brush shape and handle when I came to her, so she didn’t run off screaming like normal.

So does the Knot Genie really work as magically as claimed?

I put it to the test on my 3 year old and myself. I have to say that when I tried it on myself my favorite feature was how it worked on my just washed, wet hair. It was very smooth without any of the pulling or breakage that can be associated with brushing wet hair.

For my 3 year old.. well this is what her hair looks like when she wakes in the morning. It is pretty much always a knotted mess if I don’t keep on top of it.

I wet her hair slightly and started to work on it with the Knot Genie. This her hair mid brushing.

And this is her hair when I got done with it. I apologize that I do not have better pictures but getting a 3 year old to stay still after having their hair brushed is challenging. The fact that she let me brush it at all is an accomplishment!

Since her hair is so long and has many curls this is about as smooth as it gets. It is completely detangled here and her curls are more wavy after being brushed. It is very smooth and shiny. Here is another picture I was able to snap when she threw herself down on the floor just for the fun of it.

I have to say that the Knot Genie definitely made the brushing job easier. Being able to detangle knots without pain is wonderful. This will be my go to brush for both of my kids. Up until this point in time I was alternating between a baby brush or using my big ceramic brush on my kids. They really did not like either of those options, so this is perfect. I also really like using it on myself, especially when my hair is wet, so I think I will be sharing this brush with my kids for awhile!

Knot Genie is giving away a detangling brush to one lucky reader!

It worked great on her hair. She seems to have such thick hair, I will have to put this to the test on wet hair like you said. I did not try it that way.
